Independent TEDx day with live talks from local speakers and selected TED videos on the theme 'Minds Wide Open'.
TEDxAberdeen returns to the Aberdeen Arts Centre on Saturday 24 October, with this year's edition running from 09:00 to 16:30. It's an independently organised event run entirely by volunteers, part of the global TEDx network of local, self-organised gatherings that bring people together for a TED-like experience. The format pairs live local voices with selected TED video content, and the whole day is recorded and professionally filmed.
The theme for 2026 is Minds Wide Open, and it centres on three distinct threads: the pitfalls of the online world, creative expressions of art, and personal journeys of perseverance. Those three areas set the tone for the day, and the mix of live talks and screened clips is designed to spark conversation and challenge assumptions rather than just deliver a series of lectures.
It's a local take on a global brand, and the range of subjects it covers changes with every edition. Past years have had their own themes: Identity – a route to connection in 2024, movement in 2022, and the inaugural 2021 edition, New Ways of Seeing Old Things. The topics have run the gamut from fashion and mental health to AI, biomimicry and climate change, so the subject matter tends to shift quite a bit from one year to the next.
