Musical about the Bay City Rollers, a nostalgic feel-good story about friendship and coming of age set to the band's hits.
Rollers Forever runs at His Majesty's Theatre from Wednesday 21 to Saturday 24 October, a tartan-clad musical about the Bay City Rollers, billed as the greatest boy band of the seventies. It's not a jukebox revue, though. The story follows two lifelong friends who reconnect at a haunt from their youth and find themselves pulled back into the excitement, laughter and teenage obsession that shaped their Roller-mania: the clothes, the boys, the first crushes and the adventures of growing up in a world of phone boxes, mail order catalogues and crispy pancakes. Every memory is soundtracked by a hit from the band, and meeting their pop idols becomes the most important thing in their lives.
It's written by award-winning playwright Danny McCahon and directed by theatre-maker Liz Carruthers, and the show was shaped by the fans themselves, with the band's iconic soundtrack carried through a warm, funny story about friendship and coming of age. It plays as a feel-good piece of nostalgia, packed with humour and heart.
