MP-turned-comedian Mhairi Black brings her stand-up show 'Difficult Second Album' to The Tivoli Theatre.
Mhairi Black brings her stand-up show Difficult Second Album to The Tivoli Theatre on Thursday 29 April 2027. It's part of a Scottish tour that follows two sold-out Fringe runs and a smash-hit debut tour, so this is her first time back on the road since she made the switch from politics to comedy.
The title Difficult Second Album is a nod to the classic musician's curse — the struggle of following up a big first record with something that holds its own — and the show works around that same idea. Black spends the hour reflecting on her time in politics and what life looks like on the other side of it, alongside neurodiversity and her attempts to get fit at the gym. She describes the structure as one that jumps about in true ADHD fashion, so rather than a straight narrative, it's a collection of threads that weave in and out of each other.
It's a bit of a strange trajectory to follow, and that's where the material lands. The politics are there, but they sit alongside the more personal stuff — the gym, the neurodiversity — and the two don't ever quite separate. The Glasgow Herald called her an "iconoclastic superstar" and The List described her as "witty and self-effacing," and both those things come through in how she handles the shift from the public eye to the stage.
