Stand-up show by Lucy Beaumont, the Taskmaster and The Great British Sewing Bee comedian, about her real-life TV misadventures.
Lucy Beaumont is playing The Tivoli Theatre on Tuesday 3 November, her first Aberdeen date since her debut UK tour, The Trouble And Strife, which sold out. She's become one of the UK's most recognisable comedians, known to many from Taskmaster and her award-winning sitcom, and this show, Bad at Quiz Shows, Good with Weirdos, takes a good look at the primetime television misadventures that have come to define her public image.
Much of the material comes from the things she's managed to get herself into on camera. She cost a contestant Β£79,000 on The Wheel, turned up to Mastermind having forgotten to revise, went into hiding after Celebrity Traitors, and crafted cow-udder couture on The Great British Sewing Bee. The show is billed as an evening of chaotic brilliance, following her half-formed thoughts on the deeply ordinary as they drift into the surreal and extraordinary. It's Beaumont at her most characteristic: taking the mundane and letting it wander off into the strange.
If you've seen her on Taskmaster, you'll recognise the same sort of energy hereβthe sort of comedy that comes from watching someone be completely themselves in a situation that doesn't quite know what to make of them. The show is a solo stand-up set, so it's just her on stage with the stories. The title says it all: she's not one for the quiz shows, but she's always at home with the weirdos.
