Lunchtime concert of soloists from the North East of Scotland Music School playing contemporary and classical pieces at the Aberdeen Art Gallery.
North East of Scotland Music School are playing at Cowdray Hall in the Aberdeen Art Gallery on Thursday 26 November, from 12.45pm to 1.30pm. It's a lunchtime concert, so it's a short one β about 45 minutes β and the bill is a mix of contemporary and classical pieces performed by soloists from the school.
If you're not familiar with them, the North East of Scotland Music School provides advanced-level tuition to talented musicians from across the region. They teach students of all ages, with some of Britain's finest tutors on the staff. It's not just about technique and repertoire, either: they run masterclasses and maintain a flute choir, and their pupils regularly place in music exams from LCM, ABRSM and Trinity, as well as in competitions like NESPA. This particular performance brings a few of those soloists to the front, so you'll hear a range of styles rather than a single ensemble.
There's a bit of a milestone behind the scenes, too β the school is currently celebrating 50 years of its history. That's half a century of bringing together musicians from across the North East, so this lunchtime set sits within a pretty long tradition of teaching and performing in the area.
