A TO Z Aberdeen stages the musical Dear Evan Hansen, the first time the show has been produced by Aberdeen-based talent, at The Tivoli Theatre.
A TO Z Aberdeen are bringing Dear Evan Hansen to The Tivoli Theatre from Wednesday 27 January to Saturday 30 January 2027. It's a four-night run, with evening shows at 7:30pm each night and a Saturday matinee at 2:30pm. This is the first time the musical has been staged by Aberdeen-based talent, both on stage and off, and it's being put on at one of the city's oldest working theatres.
The show follows Evan Hansen, a lonely high schooler with severe social anxiety whose life is turned upside down when a private letter he wrote to his therapist is found by a classmate who later dies by suicide. Mistaken for the boy's secret best friend, Evan keeps the lie going to comfort the grieving parents, and accidentally becomes a social media sensation in the process. It's a story that deals with suicide and self-harm, so it's worth keeping that in mind before you book.
Behind the production is A TO Z Aberdeen, the city's newest theatre group. They only launched last year with 25 performers and two sold-out nights at the Aberdeen Arts Centre, and the interest hasn't slowed down: more than 134 people expressed interest in joining this year, and the company has opened a rehearsal studio on Market Street as a permanent base. This production comes in only their second year, and the creative team includes Joel Simpson as co-director and choreographer, Jackie Robertson as co-director, Alisdair Sneden as musical director, Katy Johnson on business, Meg Stanger on tickets, and Molly Cowan on PR and fundraising.
