Instrumentalists of all ages join composer Duncan MacLeod to build, rehearse and perform his musical collage 'The Metalization of a Dream'.
Community Music Day takes over Cowdray Hall at the Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums on Sunday 25 October, from 10.00am to 3.30pm. It's a day for instrumentalists of all ages to come together, rehearse and perform, so if you play an instrument and fancy spending a Sunday morning making music with a room full of strangers, this is your shout.
The day is led by composer Duncan MacLeod, who'll be working with everyone there to build and perform his musical collage The Metalization of a Dream. The piece is shaped by the people who take part, so the final performance depends on who turns up and what they bring. MacLeod's collage draws on the work of the Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi, and the resulting performance is intended as a musical portrait of Aberdeen's own landscape.
It's part of soundfestival, which is described as Northeast Scotland's 'generous, all-inclusive' celebration of new music. The festival is built around the theme of attentive listening, with an invitation to slow down and immerse yourself fully in all aspects of sound. That's the spirit that carries through to this day: you're not just showing up to play a part, but to help build the piece from the ground up alongside other players.
