Free installation by Claudia Molitor on ocean noise pollution, open Friday and Saturday at 87 Union Street, with a 'Listening' roundtable on Saturday.
Claudia Molitor brings Silent Seas to the Attic Shop Unit at 87 Union Street on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October. It's an installation that looks at ocean noise pollution, and it's open both days from 11am to 5pm.
The work is built around the scientists and ecologists who study the ocean's less-known depths, drawing attention to a world under pressure from noise pollution that can have a devastating effect on the life cycle of sea creatures. It was inspired in particular by the research of Dr Sophie Nedelec and Dr Isabel Key, and it sets out to explore the people working to build a healthier relationship with our seas.
If you're around on Saturday, there's a second thing to keep in mind. Molitor takes part in the festival's 'Listening' roundtable on 31 October, a discussion hosted by Pete Stollery with Maja Zeco, James Weeks and Suk-Jun Kim about listening as a creative, social and environmental practice. It's a good chance to hear her talk about the ideas behind the installation alongside other artists and thinkers.
