Scottish singer, songwriter and accordionist Calum MacPhail brings his fusion of traditional Scottish folk and Irish music to The Tivoli Theatre with his band.
Calum MacPhail brings his latest theatre show to The Tivoli Theatre on Sunday 14 March, playing with his band. He's a Scottish singer, songwriter and accordionist, and the night is presented by Rising PR.
MacPhail's work sits at the crossing of traditional Scottish folk and Irish music, and he's been building a presence on the Celtic live scene for a few years now. He first made his mark at sixteen by founding the award-winning folk band Hò-rò, which toured internationally. These days he's out as a solo artist, and this show comes fresh from the release of his album Highlands to Heartlands, which includes the single 'Bonnie Wee Jeannie' — a fan favourite that's likely to make an appearance. He'll be joined on stage by his band, so it's a full-band set rather than a solo turn.
He's built a following through sold-out performances, including shows at the Eden Court Theatre in Inverness and appearances at the Royal Highland Show. He's also supported Irish stars like The Tumbling Paddies, Nathan Carter and Derek Ryan, with several promotional tours of Ireland under his belt. The set will draw from that mix of Scottish and Irish folk, and with the new album Highlands to Heartlands as the starting point, you'll hear the newer material alongside the songs that have become staples of his live shows.
