Stand-up show by Phil Kay mixing reminiscences, site-specific silliness and songs made up on the night, for ages 18+.
Phil Kay brings his show Breakneck Comedy to Aberdeen Performing Arts on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November, with the same set running both nights. It's a stand-up show that doesn't stick to one lane: Kay mixes reminiscences and conceptual one-liners with site-specific silliness and songs he makes up on the night, so the musical side of things is improvised rather than rehearsed.
Kay has been doing this for a long time. He landed his own Channel 4 show back in the nineties and has toured Scotland and played the Edinburgh Fringe every year since, drawing on stories from his adventures around the world. That travel is a good way to get a sense of where the reminiscences come from — he's spent a fair few years on the road.
Critics have had a field day with him. He's been called a "cosmically iconic comic storytelling mind on legs", and the reviews range from the Adelaide Advertiser describing him as "a man with a real touch of unique flow" to TimeOut London calling him a "mesmerising headf*ck genius". Between the storytelling and the improvised songs, it's a set that changes depending on where he's playing.
