Live heats of the nationwide search for Scotland's next Afro-Scottish music talent, with black and POC vocalists from across Scotland performing live.
Afrosymphony: The Aberdeen Heats comes to Noose & Monkey on Thursday 29 October, bringing the second stage of a nationwide search for Scotland's next Afro-Scottish music talent to the city. This is Phase 2 — The Live Heats — where black and POC vocalists from across Aberdeen and the rest of Scotland perform live on stage. The night is filmed, and it's supported by Creative Scotland through the Scottish Government's Expanded Festivals Fund.
There's a clear path laid out for the performers who make the cut. The three acts that come out on top will go on to record new tracks with DJ and producer Auntie Flo in December. From there, those recordings will be performed live with an orchestra at the Govan Music Festival in Glasgow in March. So the night isn't just a one-off showcase; it's a heat in a competition that carries through to a full orchestral performance in the spring.
On the night, WVRA FOFO is on the mic and DJ EVZ is spinning, keeping things moving between the live sets. The whole thing is an 18+ event, so you'll need to be of age to get in.
