Chamber music concert by the Pirasti Piano Trio and Sophie Renshaw on viola, forming a piano quartet for works by Turina, Shaw, Elfman and Brahms.
The Pirasti Piano Trio are playing Fountainhall at the Cross Church on Monday 26 October, as part of the Aberdeen Chamber Music Concerts series. They're joined by Sophie Renshaw on viola, so the trio becomes a piano quartet for the night. The programme brings together Turina, Shaw, Elfman and Brahms.
The trio itself is Nicholas Miller on violin, Alison Wells on cello and Jeffrey Sharkey on piano. They first formed in 1989 and toured the UK, Europe and the USA until 2001, with a particular interest in English music and a steady run of recordings and broadcasts behind them. In 2021, with all three living in the UK again, they reunited; they now teach every summer at The Yehudi Menuhin School.
Sophie Renshaw, who joins them for this concert, was Principal Viola of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for eight years and teaches at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The whole thing sits within the Aberdeen Chamber Music Concerts series, which was founded in 1930 and is now in its 90th season. The series usually puts on six or seven concerts a season, mostly on Monday nights at 7.30pm at Fountainhall at the Cross, with performers ranging from soloists to larger groups and a history of booking established names alongside promising newcomers.
