Annual concert by the Royal British Legion's York Branch bringing together local musicians, choirs and soloists to honour those from the city who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The York RBL Festival of Remembrance returns to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre on Sunday 1 November, the annual concert put on by the Royal British Legion's York Branch. It's a gathering that brings together local musicians, choirs and soloists, alongside veterans and residents, to honour those from the city who paid the ultimate sacrifice across more than a century of conflicts in which the British Armed Forces have been involved. The theatre bills it as their annual tribute to those who fought to protect us.
Because it's a local production, the music comes from within the city. The line-up is built from York's own musicians, choirs and soloists, so the voices on stage are familiar ones rather than a touring act brought in from elsewhere. It's a concert that draws on that local connection, with veterans and residents sitting together in the audience.
That local focus is the whole point of the afternoon. The festival is about remembering the people from York who served and died in conflicts spanning over a hundred years, and it's the city's own musical community that comes together to mark it. It's a tradition the York Branch of the Royal British Legion returns to every year.
