A festive choir concert celebrating the Christmas season with groups from across the local area, supporting the Joseph Rowntree Theatre.
Choirs at Christmas returns to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre this December, running from Tuesday 15 to Thursday 17. It's a festive fundraiser that brings together local choirs from across York, with four different groups taking the stage each night. The format is pretty straightforward: a few choirs sharing one evening, so you get a fair bit of variety in a single sitting rather than just one group playing through.
The setlist leans on festive favourites and joyful harmonies, and the whole thing is family-friendly, so it works as well with kids as it does on its own. It's a community-focused night, with the proceeds going to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre and its community work. The concert comes on the back of a successful launch the previous year and has grown since then, with more groups from across the local area getting involved this time around.
Because it's a local affair, the choirs come from all over the city, and you'll hear a mix of ages and styles on the same stage. The lineup changes slightly each night, so if you're following a particular group, it's worth checking which date they're on. The York City Harmonisers are one of the choirs taking part, and they're scheduled for the final night on Thursday 17 December.
