Wizard Afternoon Teas

Wizard Afternoon Teas are running at The Potions Academy in York, with sessions every Friday unless it's a school half-term. It's a themed afternoon tea set in a world of magic, and they call it the most peculiar tea in town. The whole thing is led by a Potions Master, who guides you through the afternoon.

The tea is split into three courses, each with its own theme. First come the 'sorcery sandwiches', served with sausage rolls and pork pies, and a magic potion of your choice to drink with them. Then there are traditional scones with jam and clotted cream, paired with a hot drink conjured by the resident witch. The final course is a trio of desserts: a fairy cake, a magicians’ macaroon, and a chocolate frog resting on a bed of unicorn tears.

Vegetarian alternatives are available, though you'll need to email academy@thepotionscauldron.com at least two days in advance to sort out any dietary requirements. It's a family-friendly experience, so it works as well for a group of adults as it does for a family outing. One thing to keep in mind: the Academy is on the second floor of the building, so if you have any concerns about accessibility, it's best to drop them an email beforehand.

The Potions Academy is right in the centre of York on The Shambles, one of the most photographed streets in Europe. It's part of The Potions Cauldron, a magical drinks emporium dedicated to the alchemist and wizard Phileas Fry. The tea costs £29.99 per person.
