Vibe-ology

Vibe-ology play the York Theatre Royal on Wednesday 7 October, with the set starting at 8:00pm. They're a Yorkshire-based quartet, and the night is part of 'The Old Paint Shop' season, which turns the Studio into a cabaret club with unreserved seating.

Their sound comes from a combination of Hammond organ and vibes, and they build their set around the jazz musicians and composers who shaped that particular mix. The names they pay tribute to include Milt Jackson, Wes Montgomery, Big John Patton, Grant Green, Bobby Hutcherson, Kenny Burrell, and Jimmy Smith. With the organ and vibes working together, they pull from jazz, Latin, and blues, and stretch into funk and soul, so the night covers a fair bit of ground.

Between them, the band members have worked with a wide range of artists. That list includes Corinne Bailey Rae, the New Mastersounds, Haggis Horns, Martina Topley-Bird, New York Brass Band, Larry Carlton, Alan Barnes, and Dennis Rollins. It's a good way to get a sense of where they've come from and the kind of music they're used to playing.

The gig is in the Studio, which is part of the 'The Old Paint Shop' season, and the seating is unreserved, so you can just turn up and find a spot. It starts at 8:00pm on Wednesday 7 October at the York Theatre Royal.
