Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey + Blancmange

Tom Bailey is playing the York Barbican on Saturday 26 September, with Blancmange on the bill as well. It's a double bill of two names from the synth-pop era, and the whole thing runs from 18:30 to 23:00.

Bailey was the voice and songwriter of Thompson Twins, the 80s band known for blending pop, new wave and synth-driven dance. They had a run of singles that stayed on the radio for years — Hold Me Now, Doctor Doctor, In the Name of Love, Love On Your Side, If You Were Here, Lies, Lay Your Hands On Me and King for a Day. These days he performs as Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey, and the set draws on those big songs alongside tracks from his debut solo album, Science Fiction. He's spent the last few years on the road, completing a mini world tour in 2026 and playing UK festivals with The Human League.

Sharing the bill is Neil Arthur, who tours as Blancmange. He was a fixture of the 80s synth-pop scene, with Living On A Ceiling as one of his best-known singles. He's a long-time friend of Bailey, so the two on one bill makes a bit of sense. Between them, they cover a good stretch of that era's electronic pop, and the night is built around the songs they're both still playing.
