Clap Trap Theatre are back at Carlton Towers Estate on Friday 20 November with The Wreckers, a ghost story written by Tom Needham and performed by Natasha Jones, Florrie Stockbridge and Cal Stockbridge. It's a reunion of sorts — the company has teamed up with the estate again for this one, so if you've seen them there before, you'll know the kind of thing they do.
The story follows two friends who rent an idyllic cottage on a peninsula that gets cut off by the tide. Once they're stranded, they discover the building was actually constructed from the hull of a boat that was lured onto the rocks by wreckers, who killed the crew and looted the cargo. The peninsula has been haunted ever since by a child who drowned that day and has been waiting more than two hundred years for revenge. It's a classic setup — a remote location, a dark history, and something waiting in the shadows — and the whole thing is built around that one child who hasn't forgotten.
Past audiences have called it 'utterly spellbinding', 'beautifully crafted' and 'very moving', so it's not just about the scares. The show runs as two 40-minute acts with a 20-minute interval in between, and the bar stays open throughout, which is handy if you need a drink to steady your nerves before the second half kicks in. It's recommended for ages 12 and over, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of bringing anyone younger.
