The Oldstead Icons Experience & Overnight Stay Package with Tommy Banks

Tommy Banks is hosting a special dinner and overnight stay at The Black Swan at Oldstead on Sunday 18 October, and it's part of the restaurant's 20th anniversary celebrations. The night is called The Oldstead Icons Experience, and it brings together three chefs who've each played a part in the restaurant's culinary evolution: Tommy Banks, Will Lockwood and Callum Leslie. They'll be serving a celebratory tasting menu of iconic Oldstead dishes, with courses drawn from each of the eras they led.

The Black Swan is run by Banks, with Exec Chef Callum Leslie and Head Chef Alice Power. It sits on the edge of the North York Moors, between the ruins of Byland Abbey and the Kilburn White Horse. The cooking is built around what the team grows, rears and forages on their own three-acre kitchen garden and on the Banks family farm, which is less than a mile away. That garden-to-plate approach is the through-line here, and the tasting menu is a look back at the dishes that have defined the restaurant over two decades.

Banks himself has a bit of a track record: he was Britain's youngest Michelin-starred chef in 2013 and won Great British Menu in 2016, 2017 and 2020. The restaurant was named 'Best Restaurant in the UK 2018' by The Food and Travel Magazine and 'Best Fine Dining Restaurant in the World' by TripAdvisor in 2017. This particular evening gathers the three chefs who shaped the kitchen's evolution, so the menu is as much about the history of the place as it is about the food.
