The Dead South play York Barbican on Monday 31 August, bringing their Canadian folk and bluegrass to York for the night. They're a quartet from the Canadian prairies, and their sound sits right at the crossing of bluegrass, folk, country and western.
On stage, it's an acoustic set built around banjo, mandolin and three-part harmonies. That mix of strings and voices is what gives them their particular pull, and it's the same folk-rooted approach they've carried since they started out in Canada. If you're into bluegrass, folk or country, this is exactly the kind of thing they do.
