The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time comes to the Grand Opera House from 27 to 31 October, a five-day run that brings Mark Haddon's 2003 novel to the York stage. The story follows Christopher John Francis Boone, a fifteen-year-old maths genius with Asperger's Syndrome. When a neighbour's dog is found killed, Christopher finds himself under suspicion, and he decides to investigate the crime himself. He ends up as both detective and suspect, a trail that leads him into a mystery that forces him to confront truths about trust, independence, and his own family.

It's a play that's as much about the way Christopher sees the world as it is about the mystery he's solving. The production is known for its stagecraft, which tries to put the audience inside Christopher's head and show how he processes things. The original stage adaptation debuted in 2013 and went on to win seven Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards, so it's a well-travelled show with a strong track record behind it.

This version is directed by Ned Bennett, who describes the play's "remarkable emotional precision." On stage, Charlie Brooks plays Judy and Joe McFadden plays Ed.
