The Basement Comedy Club

The Basement Comedy Club returns to City Screen York Picturehouse on Sunday 16 August, running from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. It's a monthly night of fresh stand-up, and this one brings together Chloe Petts, Pravanya Pillay, and Josh Weller, with Sara Barron hosting the evening. The three of them will take turns on the mic, and with Barron keeping things moving between sets, it's a full line-up rather than a single act.

The night takes place in The Basement, the 100-capacity events space tucked below the main cinema. It's a licensed room that doubles as a venue for live music, comedy, spoken word and theatre, and it sits inside the riverside cinema and café-bar. Because it's a smaller room, you're close to the stage, and the bar is open throughout, so you can grab a drink and some food before and during the show.

It's worth knowing how this fits into the rest of the cinema's comedy. The Basement hosts a few different regular nights, including the 'Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club' on the first Saturday of the month, but The Basement Comedy Club itself runs on the third Sunday of every month. If you've been before, you'll know the format: a few different comics on one bill, a small room, and the bar open.
