Suzanne Ciani

Suzanne Ciani plays the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall on Wednesday 30 September, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. If you've come across her name but aren't sure where to start, she's a five-time Grammy nominee and a pioneer of electronic music, working as both a composer and a neo-classical recording artist. She's released more than 20 solo albums, including Seven Waves and The Velocity of Love, and the quad LP LIVE Quadraphonic, which brought her Buchla modular performances back to the stage.

Her place in the history of the synth is a good way to frame the evening. She was inducted into the first class of Keyboard Magazine's Hall of Fame alongside Bob Moog, Don Buchla and Dave Smith, and she's picked up the Moog Innovation Award, the A2IM Independent Icon Award, the Golden Ear Award and the SEAMUS Award. Beyond the albums, her work has turned up in films, games and a fair few commercials: she provided the voice and sounds for Bally's Xenon pinball machine and created the pop-and-pour sound for Coca-Cola. There's also a documentary about her life and work, A Life in Waves, which debuted at SXSW in 2017.

It's a full evening of her work, with the concert running from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall on Campus West, University of York, Heslington, York YO10 5DB. Tickets are £10 to £25 and booking is required.
