The national tour of Craig Warner's stage adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's psychological thriller arrives at the Grand Opera House.
Strangers on a Train comes to the Grand Opera House from Tuesday 2 February to Saturday 6 February 2027, as part of a national tour. It's Craig Warner's stage adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's 1950 psychological thriller, the novel that Alfred Hitchcock turned into a film-noir classic in 1951.
The story kicks off in the dining carriage of a train crossing America, where Guy Haines, a successful businessman, meets Charles Bruno, a cold chancer. Bruno proposes the perfect crime: two murders committed by two strangers, each covering for the other. What follows is a nightmare of guilt, manipulation and fear as Bruno's obsession spirals out of control.
It's directed by Roxana Silbert, former artistic director of Paines Plough, Birmingham Rep and Hampstead Theatre, and associate director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The production is brought to the stage by the team behind the critically acclaimed Gaslight, and it's dedicated to the memory of Craig Warner, the Hollywood-born, Suffolk-based playwright and screenwriter who died earlier that year.
