Community event with food, pitches and voting to raise funds for grassroots groups in York.
STEW returns to Bluebird Bakery on Wednesday 28 October, with another serving of the community fundraiser run by York Together. It's a straightforward evening: people gather from 6.15pm, pull up a chair, and share a warming stew and bread. Once everyone is settled, three local people take turns to pitch a grassroots project idea, with just four minutes each to make their case. Then the room votes to decide which project takes the majority of the funding, with 100% of the ticket money going into the prize pot.
York Together set the whole thing up to grow community while raising funds for grassroots groups across the city, and the format keeps it simple. You get your food, you listen to the pitches, and you have a say in where the money goes. The stew and bread are vegan, and there are no gluten-free options, so keep that in mind if you're planning your evening around it.

It runs from 6.15pm to 9pm at rise @ bluebird, inside Bluebird Bakery at 201 Acomb Road, Acomb, YO24 3HD. Tickets are pay-what-you-can, with £8 suggested, and every penny goes into the pot for the winning project.
