SpeedQuizzing at The Three Legged Mare

SpeedQuizzing is taking over The Three Legged Mare on Wednesday 12 August, starting at 8:00pm. If you've never come across it, it's a bit different from your standard pub quiz. Instead of scribbling answers on a piece of paper and handing them in at the end, you use your phone as a buzzer. The faster you get the answer in, the more points you score, so it's as much about quick thinking as it is about what you actually know.

Mike Brooke is hosting the night, and he's described it as a fast-paced hour of fun trivia and general knowledge questions. The mix is broad, so you don't need to be a specialist in any one thing to hold your own. It's designed to move quickly, keeping the energy up throughout the hour rather than dragging out into the late evening.

There's more on the line than just bragging rights, too. Prizes, drinks and cash are up for grabs, so it's worth getting a decent group together. Teams are capped at six players, which is plenty of room to cover different bases — you can bring along the history buff, the pop culture expert and the one who knows all the random facts that never seem to come up until they suddenly do.

It's a mid-week one, so you won't be staying up too late. Entry is £2.00 per player, and it kicks off at 8:00pm at The Three Legged Mare, 15 High Petergate, York, YO1.
