Seann Walsh is back at York Theatre Royal on Friday 6 November, bringing his new stand-up show This Is Torture to the city. It's a fresh hour of comedy, and the title comes from the phrase Walsh says he uses most often in his daily life.
If you've seen him before, you'll know the territory he works in. He's built his name on a particular kind of high-energy exasperation — that feeling of being the only sane person in a room full of nonsense — paired with the sharp observational comedy that's become his trademark. This is a new set, though, and it follows a sold-out tour in 2023, so it's a different hour from what he was playing then.
He's earned a fair bit of praise along the way, too. The Guardian called him the best observational comic of his generation, The Evening Standard described him as one of the hottest properties in comedy, and The Independent put him down as one of the most entertaining observational comics working at the moment. Between them, they paint a pretty clear picture of what to expect: a lot of talking about the small, irritating things that most of us just put up with, delivered with enough energy to make them actually funny.
