Immersive one-man show of A Christmas Carol with Ebenezer Scrooge on Kirkgate, the museum's recreated Victorian street, with performances throughout the day.
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol runs at York Castle Museum every Friday from 20 November to 18 December 2026, with one extra performance on Thursday 24 December. It's a one-man show that takes place on Kirkgate, the museum's recreated Victorian street, and it's a family-friendly 25 minutes long, with performances running throughout the day.
The show follows Ebenezer Scrooge as he works through a journey of redemption, generosity and joy in an immersive staging of the classic Christmas tale. Because it's a one-man show, it's just one actor carrying the whole story, and because it's immersive, you're right there on the street with him rather than watching from a distance. It's short enough to fit in around other plans, and it's aimed at families, so it works as a quick trip out with the kids.
The show is part of 'Christmas at York Castle Museum', which runs from 14 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. During that season, Kirkgate is transformed with twinkling garlands, decorated trees and snow-covered cobbles, and brought to life by characters like Green Father Christmas alongside Scrooge himself. So if you're heading in for the show, you'll see the street dressed for the season around you.
