A workshop to print your own Christmas cards inspired by Victorian cards in the museum collection, with materials and refreshments included.
York Castle Museum is running a letterpress workshop on Wednesday 2 December and Saturday 5 December, both from 10.30am to 1.30pm. You'll spend the morning printing your own Christmas cards, inspired by the Victorian cards in the museum's collection. You'll make six bespoke cards with matching envelopes, and there's room to play with colour and decorative elements, so you can put your own spin on them rather than just following a template. Along the way, you'll pick up a bit of the history of the Christmas card too.
The workshop is part of Christmas at York Castle Museum, which is the bigger festive takeover the museum does every year. The centrepiece is Kirkgate, the recreated Victorian street, dressed in twinkling garlands, decorated trees and snow-covered cobbles. While you're there, you'll run into characters like Green Father Christmas and Ebenezer Scrooge, with festive music drifting through the street. The wider Christmas exhibition runs from 14 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, so there's plenty more to see around the workshop dates.
