Robo

Robo are playing The Crescent on Thursday 8 October, their biggest headline show in York so far. They're supported by Ghostship and Vagabond, and for this one they're bringing piano and strings on stage with them.

Robo are a four-piece art-rock band from York who formed in 2023. They describe themselves as 'slightly too arty to be indie and slightly too poppy to be conventional art-rock', and they write catchy, emotional songs with three vocalists, multiple songwriters and unorthodox harmonies. Frank Garcia-Luengo and Eric Wolf Bell have been writing together since they were three, later joined by Holly Brewer and James Paton. They signed to 25 Hour Convenience Store, the label founded by The Libertines' drummer Gary Powell, and have since sold out two York headline shows and completed two UK tours.

Their single 'Claw Machine' got airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music, and they're currently preparing new music. 'Waste of Space', produced by Powell at The Albion Rooms in Margate, is due on 29 September, just before a third UK tour this autumn. The York date is billed as their biggest headline show to date, and the addition of piano and strings should make for a fuller sound than their usual four-piece set.

The night runs from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm at The Crescent Community Venue, 8 The Crescent, York. Tickets are £10 plus a booking fee.
