Picturehouse Outdoor Cinema

Picturehouse is bringing its outdoor cinema back to York Museum Gardens this September, with three nights of screenings under the stars from Friday 11 to Sunday 13. It's a pop-up setup, so they'll be hauling a big screen into the gardens for the weekend rather than using a permanent installation. The films are all well-known ones, and they're spread across the three nights, so you can pick the one that suits you best.

Friday 11 September opens with Grease (PG), the 1950s high school romance that's a safe bet for almost any age. Saturday 12 September shifts gears with Evil Dead II (15), a horror-comedy that leans more into the campy side of the genre, so that one's for a slightly older crowd. Sunday 13 September closes with Jurassic Park (12A), the dinosaur adventure that works as a family night out. All three start at 18:30, though the actual film doesn't kick off until it's dark enough to see the screen properly.

It's a paid event, and each ticket comes with a £7 voucher to spend on food and drink during the evening. There's a bar on site serving alcoholic drinks, softs, and cinema snacks like chips, nachos, and hot dogs. If you're planning on the alcohol, keep in mind they run Challenge 25, so bring ID if you're under 25. The doors open at the announced time, and the film starts at dusk, so you'll have a bit of a wait before the opening credits roll.

Since it's outdoors, you'll want to bring your own blankets, cushions, or picnic chairs to settle in for the evening. They do hand out a limited number of beach chairs on a first-come, first-served basis, but you're better off bringing your own if you want to be sure.
