Phil Wang: UH OH

Phil Wang brings his new stand-up show, UH OH, to the York Barbican on Friday 11 September, with the performance starting at 7:30 PM. It's a fresh hour of material, and Wang himself sums up the premise with a dry observation: he's older than ever before, and he's even got a moustache now.

If you've come across him on TV, you'll recognise the British-Malaysian comedian and writer. He was born in the UK and raised in Malaysia, and he studied engineering at King's College, Cambridge. While there, he picked up the 2010 Chortle Student Comedy Award and Comedy Central's Funniest Student Award in 2011, so he's been working at this for a while. He's a regular on Taskmaster and Would I Lie to You?, and he had a brief role in Wonka. His first full-length special, Philly Philly Wang Wang, came out on Netflix in 2021.

Beyond the stage, he co-hosts the podcast BudPod with Pierre Novellie and wrote the book Sidesplitter: How To Be From Two Worlds At Once. The critics have been on his side, too: The Guardian called him 'one of the stand-up greats of his generation', and Time Out described him as 'a comic who just gets better and better'.
