A co-headline musical party featuring New York Brass Band and Hyde Family Jam, performing individual sets and a collaborative finale.
New York Brass Band and Hyde Family Jam are sharing a bill at York Barbican on Friday 7 August, two of the city's biggest party bands on the same stage. It's a co-headline show, so each band plays their own set before they come together for a final collaborative performance that blends New Orleans brass with folk-rock.
New York Brass Band describe themselves as 'a riot of trumpets, drums and pure party energy'. They take their sound from New Orleans, though they were born and bred right here in Yorkshire. Hyde Family Jam have been around since 2014 and are known for high-energy pop covers played on folk instruments. They picked up the 'York Culture's Best Buskers' award in 2018 and have appeared in two Netflix films, so they're well-acquainted with the city's street-performing scene.
Between the two of them, you've got a brass band and a folk-rock outfit, and the whole night builds towards them playing together. The New Orleans influence of the brass band meets the folk-rock of the jam, and since both are built around party energy, it's a fair bet the two styles will sit comfortably side by side.

Tickets are on sale now, and there are a few practical things to keep in mind. There's a strict age restriction on the standing floor: no under-14s, and anyone under 14 has to be accompanied by an adult over 18. Booking fees apply to the ticket price, and the Barbican offers separate hospitality packages if you're after something a bit more exclusive. The show starts at 8:00pm on 7 August.
