Historian Lucy Worsley brings her touring show on the history of the British monarchy to the Grand Opera House, exploring royal residences and figures.
Lucy Worsley brings her touring show My Royal Life: An Audience With Lucy Worsley to the Grand Opera House on Friday 18 September, with a matinee at 14:30 and an evening performance at 19:30.
Worsley is a historian and bestselling author who spent twenty years as Chief Curator in some of Britain's royal palaces. In the show, she takes the audience behind the scenes of the residences she came to know so well, from Hampton Court's Haunted Gallery to the gilded apartments of Kensington Palace. Along the way, she introduces Britain's best-known queens and kings and says what she really thinks of them.
Delivered with her trademark warmth and scholarly sparkle, the evening lifts the lid on royal life over the centuries, revealing the secrets, stories and splendours of Britain's royal past, its pageantry and, sometimes, its pain. It's a look at the monarchy from the inside, told by someone who's spent two decades working within its walls.

The Grand Opera House itself has a bit of a royal history of its own. It wasn't originally intended to be a theatre; it opened in 1902 with Little Red Riding Hood starring Florrie Ford and was restored in 1987 by the India Pru Co. Ltd. Tickets for the two performances on 18 September range from £14.00 to £71.00.
