A stage adaptation of the long-running ITV detective drama, following DCI Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Gavin Troy as they investigate the death of Emily Simpson in the village of Badger's Drift.
Midsomer Murders is coming to the Grand Opera House from 30 June to 3 July 2027, as part of its UK and Ireland tour. It's a stage adaptation of the long-running ITV detective drama, taken by director Guy Unsworth from Caroline Graham's Chief Inspector Barnaby novels.
The story follows DCI Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Gavin Troy as they investigate the death of Emily Simpson in the tranquil village of Badger's Drift, a plot that promises suspenseful twists and turns. It's the kind of thing the series is known for: a quiet village, a sudden death, and a trail of secrets that leads far beyond the village boundaries. The production is by Nicholson Green Productions and Colin Ingram Ltd.
It's not a new show, though. It toured in 2025 and 2026, where it broke box office records and picked up plenty of praise. Daniel Casey, who plays Inspector Tom Barnaby, spoke about the joy of that tour and mentioned a particular highlight: having his mentor John Nettles, the original Barnaby, come to see the show in Truro. Audiences have described it as an excellent stage version of the series, pointing to the humour, the timing, the scenery, and that whole world of eccentric villagers, buried secrets and barely contained rivalries that make the show what it is.
