A modern farce comedy show by The Right Track Theatre group, set at a small-town Comic Con where a superfan is mistaken for a famous actor.
Meteor is coming to York Mount Leisure Centre on Tuesday 3 November and Friday 6 November, both nights starting at 19:30. It's a comedy from The Right Track Theatre group, a troupe made up of recent drama school graduates who set out to bring back the farce with a modern twist. They've played on heritage railways and at the Camden Fringe Festival, and this one is directed and co-written by South Milford native Ben Cawood, the group's artistic director and founder.
The show is a proper farce, and the cast is small — just four actors playing twenty different characters. It's set at a small-town Comic Con, and the story follows Matt, a superfan who gets mistaken for the famous actor Dick Chase. He's thrust on stage for a live Q&A, where he accidentally implicates his hero in a string of scandals. He and his friend Larna spend the rest of the night trying to salvage Chase's reputation while dodging savage TV executives, scoop-hungry reporters and an overzealous policeman.
It's that kind of mistake-driven comedy where things go from bad to worse, with a small cast juggling a lot of roles. If you're into the Comic Con side of things, the setting should feel familiar, and the whole thing is built around the sort of mix-ups and misunderstandings that make farce work. The Right Track Theatre group describe their aim as reviving the genre with a modern touch, and this is their take on it.
