Meet the winemakers and enjoy a 7-course tasting menu paired with six South African wines at Roots.
Roots is hosting a South African wine dinner on Thursday 24 September, bringing some of the most exciting names in South African wine to the city for one night. The evening is built around a seven-course tasting menu paired with six South African wines, with the winemakers themselves there to talk through what's in the glass.
Among them are Lukas Van Loggerenberg, Miles Mossop, and members of the Newton Johnson family. They'll be sharing the stories behind their wines and the passion that goes into each pour, so you'll hear from the people who actually made what you're drinking rather than just reading a tasting note. It's a chance to get a proper look at the South African scene from the inside.
The food is the work of Roots Head Chef Will Lockwood, who's put together a seven-course tasting menu that draws on hyper-local and seasonal ingredients grown and foraged on the Banks family farm in Oldstead. He works with preservation techniques like fermenting, curing, and pickling to stretch the season, so the menu reflects what's coming off the land nearby. Roots is also the only Michelin-starred restaurant in the UK to serve premium canned wines, provided by Banks Brothers, as part of its sustainability commitment.
