Ippuku Tea Stand

Ippuku Tea House are setting up a stand in the Artists' Garden on Saturday 29 August, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The garden sits directly behind York Art Gallery on Museum Street, so it's easy to find if you're already in the Museum Gardens.

They've been specialists in Japanese tea since 2013 and run a local café on Blake Street, just a short walk from the gallery. At the stand, they'll be serving tea samples and talking through the different varieties and the differences between them, so if you've never really known your sencha from your matcha, it's a good place to get a handle on it. There's also retail tea available to buy on the day if you want to take some home.

The day is part of Making Waves: A Closing Celebration, a two-day festival of music, workshops, creative activities, food and drink marking the close of the exhibition Making Waves: The Art of Japanese Woodblock Print, which closes on Sunday 30 August. The tea stand fits right into that Japanese theme, and since it's part of a wider festival, there's more going on around it than just the tea.

It's free to come along, and the stand runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday 29 August in the Artists' Garden, just behind York Art Gallery on Museum Street.
