Gipsy Kings by André Reyes play the York Barbican on Sunday 8 November, a night of flamenco and rumba led by one of the original Gipsy Kings. If you've ever heard Bamboleo or Djobi Djoba, you've come across the sound they helped make famous: that particular blend of flamenco and rumba that found its way far beyond the borders of Spain.
André Reyes was one of the founders of the Gipsy Kings, the band that took that sound international and sold more than 60 million records along the way. He's spent over three decades in the music, and this project is a family affair — he leads it alongside his son and nephews. It's the same flamenco and rumba that defined the original group, played by the next generation of the family.
It's a show for anyone who likes flamenco and rumba, and it's open to all ages, though there's a minimum age of 14 — anyone under that needs to be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. So it works as a family night out as much as a proper gig.
