Family Life Drawing

York Art Gallery is hosting a family life drawing class on Friday 30 October, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm. It's led by York-based artist and tutor Rob Oldfield, and you'll be drawing from a live model. The session is set inside the gallery's exhibition Turner, Wedgwood and Beyond: Inspired by Flaxman, a major show produced with the University of York's History of Art Department. It brings together more than 100 works to mark the bicentenary of the death of the York-born draughtsman, sculptor and designer John Flaxman (1755-1826).

During the class, you'll work through quick sketches, big movements and curious observation to explore gesture, movement, shape and storytelling. The model is fully clothed, and the session is suitable for ages 5 and over, with under-18s needing to be accompanied by an adult. Basic drawing materials are provided, though you're welcome to bring your own if you prefer. It's a good way to get a bit of drawing in with the kids during the October half-term.

If you're after something more adult, the gallery is running two other life drawing sessions led by Rob Oldfield: Life Drawing: Model as Muse and Life Studies: Line, Form & Figure, the latter inspired by Flaxman's distinctive linear drawings. Between the three, there's a fair bit of drawing to choose from across the half-term.

Tickets are £10 per person, and that includes general admission to the gallery, so you can wander through the Flaxman exhibition before or after. The session runs from 2:00pm to 3:30pm at York Art Gallery, Exhibition Square, York, YO1 7EW.
