Adult life drawing session with a model as muse, led by artist Rob Oldfield, where participants draw from a live model in a supportive environment.
York Art Gallery is hosting another life drawing session on Saturday 12 December, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It's part of a regular series that runs on the second Saturday of every month, so if you're already in the habit of spending your Saturday afternoons drawing, this one fits right in. The session is led by Rob Oldfield, a York-based artist and tutor who's spent years modelling for life classes himself before moving to the other side of the easel to teach.
Over the two hours, you'll draw from a live model and work through the basics: contour, proportion, rhythm and gesture. It's a supportive, friendly environment that works for regulars, people honing their skills, and first-timers alike, so you don't need to be an experienced artist to join in. Basic drawing materials are provided, though you're more than welcome to bring your own if you have a particular set of pencils or a sketchbook you prefer.
What sets these sessions apart is how they tie into the gallery's wider collection. Each month, a work from the Art Gallery's permanent collection is chosen to set the tone for the session. Throughout autumn and winter, the workshops draw on the exhibition Turner, Wedgwood & Beyond: Inspired by Flaxman, so the work you're doing in the room sits alongside what's on the walls around you.
