A Christmas concert presented by singer-songwriter Alistair Griffin and the Ebor Quartet, performed in the candlelit setting of York Minster.
Alistair Griffin is performing Fairytale At York Minster: Christmas Hits by Candlelight at York Minster on Wednesday 16 December. He's the singer-songwriter leading the night, and he's joined by the Ebor Quartet, who'll be accompanying him throughout. The whole thing is staged by candlelight inside the Minster, with the quartet providing the backing for Griffin's vocals.
The set is built around Christmas classics. They'll be reimagining songs like Fairytale of New York, Last Christmas, and Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree, alongside the more stirring O Holy Night and the Home Alone theme. It's a mix of the well-known pop hits and the more traditional side of the season, all performed by the two of them rather than a full band.
Griffin is a singer-songwriter whose work has been heard on BBC Radio 2 and seen on BBC television. He's the one taking the lead here, with the Ebor Quartet filling out the sound around him. The evening is promoted by Big Christmas Concert Ltd, and there's a side-aisle version of the show running on the same night if that suits you better. There are no refreshments available on site, but there is a VIP add-on that gets you a glass of fizz in the Chapter House and a photo with the musicians before they take centre stage.
