Contemporary folk band Evolution of Fishermen perform at the York Theatre Royal Studio.
Evolution of Fishermen are playing the York Theatre Royal on 8 October, in the venue's Studio. They're a contemporary folk band that formed in 2021, and they've built their name on storytelling, tight harmonies and original songs. If you've followed them, you'll know they're not just a studio project — they've spent the last few years playing out across the folk scene, with dates at Green Note, O2 Academy Islington, and Old Blue Last in London, and The Crescent here in York.
Their festival run has been just as busy, with appearances at Wilderness, Deershed, Gate to Southwell, and LOOP fest, as well as Sam Lee's The NEST stage at Medicine Festival. In May 2024, they put out their debut EP, Days Like These, so this is a good chance to hear those songs live. Beyond the gigs, they curate a collaborative music night at Paper Dress Vintage called 'The Circle', where they act as the house band for guest artists — a modern take on the traditional folk circle.
