Cookery demonstration by Sabrina Ghayour from her new cookbook Persiana One, with tasters.
Sabrina Ghayour is coming to The Bookshop at Topping and Company Booksellers on Tuesday 8 September, where she'll be presenting her new cookbook, Persiana One. It's a cookery demonstration, so you'll see her in action rather than just hearing her talk about the recipes. There will be tasters on the night, too, which is always the best part of these things.
If you've come across her work before, you'll know the Persian and Middle Eastern flavours she's built her reputation on. Persiana One keeps that focus but shifts the approach: it's more than 100 recipes designed to be as simple and kit-free as possible, and every single one comes with a photograph. It's the kind of book that's meant to be used, not just sat on a shelf.
There's a bit of a story to how she got here. Ghayour is an Iranian, self-taught home cook who turned herself into a chef, cookery teacher and food writer. She first made her name hosting 'Sabrina's Kitchen', a supper club in London that specialised in Persian and Middle Eastern flavours, and she was named the Observer's Rising Star in Food. Her debut, Persiana, was a worldwide bestseller, and she's followed it with a long run of Sunday Times bestsellers: Sirocco, Feasts, Bazaar, Simply, Flavour and Persiana Everyday. Nigella Lawson described her Middle Eastern food as 'all flavour, no fuss โ and makes me very, very happy'.
