Come and Sing with Odaline de la Martinez

Odaline de la Martinez is leading a choral workshop at the National Centre for Early Music on Sunday 22 November, from 1.30pm to around 5.30pm. It's a half-day session focused on 17th-century Mexican convent music, and she'll be joined by accompanist Helen Glaisher-Hernández.

The workshop is part of The Secret Art: Mujeres ¡Presentes!, a project that looks at the music of those convents alongside Afro-Cuban rhythms and the rhythms of the Rio Carnival. The session itself is a singing one, so you'll be working through the music rather than just listening. Sheet music is available to download in advance, which is a good shout if you want to get a handle on the pieces before you arrive. Tea and coffee are served throughout the afternoon, and it closes with a short run-through for family and friends at 5pm, so you can show what you've been working on.

It's supported by Instituto Cervantes Manchester and The Iberian and Latin American Music Society, and the venue is St Margaret's Church on Walmgate, YO19TL. Tickets are £25, with a reduced price of £15 for under-35s, and you'll need to book by 8 November.
