Choral Workshop: Bach Motets

Jo Wainwright is leading a baroque singing workshop at the National Centre for Early Music on Saturday 5 December, part of the York Early Music Christmas Festival. It's a morning spent working through two of J.S. Bach's motets, Jesu, meine Freude (BWV 227) and Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden (BWV 230), both written during his time in Leipzig and regarded as masterpieces of Baroque counterpoint. Wainwright shares his knowledge of and regard for Bach through these two pieces, and the session is built around getting them under your belt.

Registration and coffee start at 9.30am, with the workshop itself running from 10am to 1pm. A certain amount of choral experience and the ability to sight-read are helpful, and the scores are made available online in advance so you can have a look before you arrive. If you're a Friend of the NCEM, there's an informal run-through at 12.45pm.

The workshop takes place at the National Centre for Early Music, in St Margaret's Church on Walmgate, YO19TL. It costs £25, with a reduced price of £15 for under-35s, and there's a £1.50 administration fee per transaction. You'll need to book by Friday 27 November.
