Jazz performance by the Beverley Beirne Quartet at the York Theatre Royal Studio, featuring original interpretations of jazz standards and contemporary songs.
The Beverley Beirne Quartet play the Studio at York Theatre Royal on Saturday 10 October. Beirne is on vocals, backed by John Crawford on piano, Andy Hamill on double bass and Steve Hanley on drums.
Beirne has a long history of playing the jazz circuit, with dates at Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club, the 606 Club, The Stables, Gregory’s in Rome and Venice Jazz Club, and headlining the Marsden and Limerick Jazz Festivals. Her album Dream Dancer was long-listed for the Grammys' Best Jazz Vocal Album and picked up several four-star reviews. Produced by Jason Miles, it's a collection of original takes on songs of hope, passion and life, with tracks like 'Old Brazil', written by Duncan Lamont; 'Reaching For The Moon', by Irving Berlin; and 'Grandma’s Hands', by Bill Withers.
She doesn't stick to the jazz songbook, though. Her set includes her own interpretations of David Bowie’s 'Let’s Dance' and The Clash’s 'Should I Stay or Should I Go'.

The gig is part of 'The Old Paint Shop' season, which transforms the Studio into a cabaret club with unreserved seating. It's on Saturday 10 October at the York Theatre Royal Studio.
