A hands-on masterclass led by Luke's Bakery covering the entire sourdough process, from mixing and shaping to baking, suitable for all abilities.
Luke’s Bakery is running an introduction to sourdough workshop at Carlton Towers on Saturday 6 February 2027, with a second date on Saturday 13 March. It's held in the Cooks Kitchen, the original servants' quarters on the estate, and it's open to all abilities, from complete novices to enthusiastic amateurs.
The day is a full dive into the process. You'll cover mixing, shaping, and baking, but there's a good bit of theory too. Luke’s Bakery explains the science behind sourdough — how it actually works, why it needs extra time to rise, and how to troubleshoot the common issues that usually trip people up. There's plenty of hands-on practice, including specific shaping techniques, so you're not just watching from the side.
The aim is to get you baking artisan loaves at home, and maybe even setting up your own home bakery. If you don't have a steam oven, they suggest bringing your own cast iron pot to help replicate the results. Lunch is included — a simple soup and sandwich — and you'll take home the sourdough you've baked along with some of Luke’s own sourdough starter to keep going.

It's £150 per person, and since it's a full day of hands-on work, you'll leave with a proper handle on the whole process rather than just a few tips. The two dates are 6 February and 13 March 2027, both at the Cooks Kitchen within the Carlton Towers estate.
