A six-course tasting menu paired with wines and Ports from the Symington portfolio, with Anthony Symington sharing the story behind the wines.
Roots York is hosting An Evening with The Symington Family Estate Portfolio on Thursday 5 November, a dinner and tasting built around the Douro Valley. The night runs from 6:00pm to 11:00pm, and the whole thing centres on Anthony Symington, the current head of the family estate, who'll be there in person to tell the story behind the bottles being poured.
The food is a six-course tasting menu signed by head chef Will Lockwood, and it's paired with seven wines and Ports from the Symington portfolio. The selection runs alongside wines already featured on the Roots York wine menus, so the evening draws on the restaurant's existing list rather than bringing in a completely separate set of bottles. Between courses, Symington talks through the wines, giving you the background on what's in the glass.
For a bit of context, Symington Family Estates brings more than 130 years of history from the Douro Valley in Portugal, a house known for its Port production and for showcasing the region's distinctive wines. The evening is built around Anthony Symington himself, who'll be sharing the family story as the night unfolds. The tasting menu is signed by Will Lockwood, the restaurant's head chef.
