Alice Oswald talks about her work Rhapsody, a manifesto for the oral tradition of poetry.
Alice Oswald is coming to Topping & Company Booksellers on Tuesday 20 October, starting at 7pm. She'll be talking about Rhapsody: A Manifesto, a new work of non-fiction that she describes as a search for poetry in its original, wildest form—the kind that existed before it was ever written down.
If you're not familiar with her, Oswald is one of the UK's most respected poets and a T.S. Eliot Prize winner, with several collections of poetry and prose already behind her. Rhapsody is a bit of a departure from the usual: it's billed as a daring, genre-defying piece of non-fiction, and the manifesto part of the title points to what it's really about—the oral tradition of poetry. The whole thing is a look at poetry as something spoken and heard rather than read on a page, and the evening is her talking through that idea.
